Acupuncture is an ancient form of medicine originating in China. They believe that there are 12 energy meridians in our body and when the flow of energy in any of these meridians is disturbed, various physical and emotional illnesses can be caused.
An acupuncturist works by stimulating specific points on the body thereby correcting the flow of energy and any associated illnesses.
The Chinese believe Acupuncture can help to treat many illnesses, including:
Acupuncture may also help when you need a boost of energy or as a preventative form of medicine.
An initial session at the clinic will involve a detailed consultation followed by over one hour of treatment. Therefore, the first session may last up to 2 hours. Subsequent treatments will last between 45 to 60 minutes.
The amount of treatment required depends on the patient and their condition. On average, patients require 4-6 treatments before they can expect noticeable improvements in their condition. On the whole, most people find that they feel relaxed during treatment. Patients often feel a pleasant tingling sensation. The most unpleasant sensation may be a dull ache.
A fully trained Five Element Acupuncturist will have undertaken three years of full time study and practical training before becoming a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC).
